Architect Adrian James's new home, Copper Bottom, located on the outskirts of Oxford, is a remarkable blend of style and sustainability. Clad almost entirely in recycled copper, it features a unique design that resembles metallic origami. Despite its playful and carefree appearance, Copper Bottom is a highly sustainable building. The house is equipped with 37 solar panels, an air-source heat pump, a timber structure, triple-glazing, and generous insulation. The house generates more energy than it consumes, even the charging point for electric cars and the air conditioning are only used when the solar panels are most productive! The efficient and logical design is based on a simple cuboid with projections and recessions of the copper wrapping providing shade in the summer and allow warming rays to enter in the winter.
Inside, large windows and rooms face the best views and light. It is this utilisation of daylight that makes the specification of Silent Gliss motorised curtain tracks SG 5600 so important. Complete with Wave curtains in our exclusive Colorama 1 Multicolour fabric, at the touch of a button the daylight can be gently filtered through the textured fabric to flood the interior space with warm, diffused light. Dim-out curtains on SG 1080 profiles ensure a peaceful night's sleep.
Overall, Copper Bottom demonstrates how architectural creativity, sustainability and elegance can coexist, with its innovative design and environmentally friendly features working together to create a truly unique and sustainable home.
