Broughton house is a Georgian mansion set in 62 acres of parkland. Creating a contemporary extension on a Grade II listed building in a Green Belt area designated an as Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty was always going to be a challenge. The aim was to have a glass structure that appeared to be almost floating, supported by only one corner beam. With such large areas of glass it was important to manage solar and thermal heat gain, particularly during times of low winter sun. The architects wanted a shading solution that delivered on performance but which would also change the character of the internal space so they selected Silent Gliss.
